Ethereal Beauty

Ethereal Beauty

“Hundreds of butterflies flitted in and out of sight like short-lived punctuation marks in a stream of consciousness without beginning or end.” -Haruki Murakami, 1Q84

Hello Muses! Welcome back to my blog. I'm sharing another segment in the Treehouse series I did with photographer, Sergio Navarro, and his wife Rebecca Navarro of Style it Green! I especially loved this photoset because both of our outfits were just so beautiful and ethereal and so was the place where we took the photos. It was so peaceful being out in nature for the day. We are very lucky to live in the Bay Area where many beautiful little public and private places like this exist.

In this set, we are both wearing beautiful vintage gowns. Rebecca's is a vintage Dior robe with lace and she shares a personal story about it over on her blog. I am wearing a beautiful sheer gown covered with beautiful butterflies and with a black floor length slip underneath. This is from one of my favorite vintage sellers on Instagram: @RetroRhapsody. I love the ethereal beauty of butterflies and my couture mentor is also very inspired by butterflies and it is a common motif in her designs and paintings. I included the quote above from one of my favorite books, 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami because he inserts surrealism very nonchalantly in his works amid the realistic events that are currently happening. It reminded me of moments of being in nature, where your surroundings are so beautiful it seems surreal but it is in fact a real place, in real life. I must say, I love that feeling, and this dress totally reminded me of the vision: “Hundreds of butterflies flitted in and out of sight like short-lived punctuation marks in a stream of consciousness without beginning or end.” (Murakami, 1Q84) Butterflies often represent beautiful moments, and life is full of sometimes quick, but very beautiful moments.

The ever-beautiful Rebecca also wears the classic Janus Ribbon Corset in Jet, by Evgenia Lingerie - you'll see this corset a lot here on the blog because it's so versatile and comfortable and can be worn over many dresses, as well as on it's own. It's so beautiful over her vintage Dior Robe. Our flower crowns are from Claire's.
